Fairfield Housing Co-operative’s latest city centre development in Perth was opened last week following the completion of the 32 one and two bedroom flats.
The £3.2 million project was completed in December 2017 by Robertson Partnership Homes which provides a significant number of construction-related work placements, apprenticeships and full time employment reinforcing the added value of housing investment.
The Canal Street site was well known in Perth as the former Zoo nightclub which closed its doors in 2015.
Grant Ager, Fairfield’s chief executive, welcomed the opening of the “challenging” development.
He said: “The initial opening in March had to be delayed because of the ‘Beast from the East’ however we are delighted to be here today with our many guests, Perth & Kinross Council, Fairfield board members, the contractor and design team.
“This was a challenging project being on a narrow city centre site and significant praise goes to our contractors for delivering such a high quality product which our tenants are absolutely delighted with. The whole facade and feel of the street has been lifted to a higher level and it is definitely an asset to Perth city centre housing provision. Being located within Perth town centre conservation area there is a very high level of external finish with brick, wood and zinc offering a contemporary look.”
Stewart Shearer, managing director of Robertson Partnership Homes, said he was very pleased with the outcome despite the construction challenges.
“It’s always encouraging to hear first-hand the positive impact a new development has on tenants,” Stewart added.
Fairfield chair, Rena Crichton, said: “The Fairfield Board and myself are delighted to be today and very happy with the outcome of this project. It’s a great way to start our 30th year in business. 2019 will see the Co-operative own and manage around 700 homes in Perth and Kinross.”
