The event is aimed at those giving benefits advice and assistance as well as those with financial responsibility for projects which rely on funding from welfare benefits. Contributions will be collated and presented to the government in response to their consultation document. The closing date for submissions is 1st October.

GETTING INVOLVED IN THE CHARTER – WORKING TOGETHER FOR BETTER OUTCOMES
Date:
30 September 2010
Description:
Getting Involved in the Charter – Working Together for Better Outcomes
Thursday 30th September 2010
TIS is hosting a one day conference for tenant participation workers and support staff which will enable delegates to find out more about the proposed Social Housing Charter and how to support tenants and colleagues to get involved in its development.
The local outcomes will be negotiated locally between landlords and tenants so plans will be needed to engage with tenants, to get people involved and work together to produce particular outcomes.
A member of the Scottish Government’s Charter team will inform delegates about the progress that is being made in the Charter’s development and the plans for further consultation during 2011.
Discussion will also focus on the government’s proposals contained in its new consultation paper Housing: Fresh Thinking, New Ideas.
The conference will take place on Thursday 30th September 2010 in The Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling. Registration will commence at 9.30 a.m. The conference will start at 10 a.m. and finish at 3.30 p.m.
To book a place log on to our website at www.tis.org.uk/events, complete the booking form and email to us at info@tis.org.uk or telephone 0141 248 1242.
The delegate rate for the day is £185.00 including lunch and refreshments. PRICE FREEZE – this is the same price as our events for tenant participation staff in 2009. EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT – book BEFORE 31st JULY 2010 and receive a 10% discount on the cost of each place booked.
EVH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

29 October 2010
Description:
EVH Annual Conference -
29/31 October 2010 - Fairmont St Andrews
The Conference programme is now taking shape, with a good range of speakers on topics which are all very relevant and we think fit with our theme for this year Love where you Live.
Our keynotes are Peter Holbrook, the new boss of the Social Enterprise Coalition who will present on developing sustainable communities, Chris Sherwood of NESTA on involving your communities. (NESTA is an independent body with a mission to make the UK more innovative to drive economic recovery and solve some of the UK's major social challenges).
Our closing keynote speaker is John Simonett, speaker, humourist and presenter who will end the Conference with a session on something a wee bit different from the rest of the weekend. Sir Menzies Campbell, MP, Member of Parliament for North East Fife, will also be presenting the Helen McGregor Award on the Friday evening of our Conference.
On the entertainment front we have the fabulous Bogus Brothers on Friday evening - they are not to be missed - and the Soul Kings on the Saturday evening - all big wigs and 80s themed stuff - so look out your 80s attire and join in the fun.
Tempted? then take a look at our flyer and speakers schedule from our website www.evh.org.uk. This is not the final programme, but we're nearly there! I would encourage you to secure your place as soon as possible - email Shanna@evh.org.uk to check availability and to make your booking.
GWSF ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2010: KEEPING IT LOCAL!
Date:
05 November 2010
Description:
GWSF’s sixth Annual Conference is being held in Glasgow on Friday 5th November.
It takes place against a background where we will be just six months away from next year’s Scottish elections. And we will know more about just how severe cuts in public spending are going to be over the next three years. These cuts will have a serious effect on housing – and on many other vital services our communities depend on.
Community controlled housing associations (CCHAs) have made a huge difference in regenerating communities in the west of Scotland. How can we promote our achievements and the benefits of local control? How will we negotiate our way through tougher economic times? And what kind of policies do we need from government, to make sure CCHAs continue to flourish? “Keeping it Local” will give staff and committee members an opportunity to get to grips with these questions, and more besides.
There will be keynote addresses from Alex Neil MSP, the Minister for Housing and Communities, and from Johann Lamont MSP, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party in the Scottish Parliament. Lesley Riddoch, broadcaster and journalist, will ask whether “localism” is just a gimmick thought up by the new UK Coalition Government to make cuts - or whether it’s the key to better services and stronger communities in Scotland. The conference workshops will be led by CCHA staff and committee members – and will look in detail at the challenges and opportunities the future holds.
