Barrowfield regeneration continues with plans for 52 new homes

West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) plans to continue the regeneration of the Barrowfield community, located in Glasgow’s East End, with 52 new affordable homes.

The homes, which will be located on Fielden Street, are due to begin development in June 2018. The development will consist of a variety of housing sizes and types, with a strong focus on design, outdoor space and environmental performance. The Association will invite consultation with the local community as part of the design process.

WSHA chief executive Lynne Donnelly said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue our regeneration work in Barrowfield. The site has excellent potential to welcome many new families and individuals and the development will provide an immediate visual impact for residents. We look forward to working with the local community to provide housing which meets their needs.”

WSHA, one of Scotland’s oldest social landlords, has been delivering a comprehensive regeneration programme in the area since 1996. This has included considerable investment from The Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and WSHA. The recent acquisition of Fielden Street follows the completion of 18 amenity homes in the Barrowfield Estate in August 2016. The additional investment in Fielden Street compliments the £25 million already invested in developing 200 homes within the neighbouring communities of Gallowgate and the Games Village, Dalmarnock, Glasgow. In the next few years WSHA aims to build 500 new high-quality, affordable homes across Glasgow, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire.

WSHA and its subsidiary Willowacre Trust continue to provide community and support services to tenants and the wider community. This includes health and wellbeing support, youth diversionary programmes and Tea Dances in the Barrowfield Community Centre and the Barrowfield Community Park. Tenants are also supported by money and energy advice services, older people’s services, food parcels and starter packs. Wider tenant support is also provided by WSHA via an in-house Welfare Rights Team.
