CCG begins work on 20 Weslo homes in Falkirk

TamfourhillWork has started on a new social housing development in the Tamfourhill area of Falkirk.

Weslo Housing Management Ltd is working with construction and manufacturing company CCG on the Carrick Place development, which will offer sixteen 1 and 2 bedroom cottage flats and four 3 bedroom semi-detached homes for social rent.

The homes are being built at CCG’s art offsite manufacturing facility in Cambuslang and will be transported to site for final assembly, a method which reduces build time, improves environmental efficiency and minimises waste.

The approach has been used in a range of projects across Scotland including The Schoolhouse, a 66 home development in Edinburgh and The Observatory, a 19 bespoke flat development in Glasgow, the winner of the Development of the Year 2015 at the Herald Property Awards.

A spokesperson for Weslo Housing Management Ltd, which has a portfolio of 2,300 homes for social rent in West Lothian and Bo’ness, said: “We’ve been actively trying to get some much needed social housing on this site for 7 years and are absolutely thrilled that we have now made a start.

“Designed to full varying needs space standards, the houses also incorporate an enhanced ‘Silver Standard’ energy specification, including photovoltaic solar panels which will ensure minimum running costs for our tenants. In finally getting to this stage, we are grateful of course, for the support received and encouragement received from Falkirk Council and the grant assistance from the Scottish Government.”

Calum Murray, director at CCG, said: “CCG is delighted to be working with Welso Housing Management to support their investment programme and add to the number of homes available for social rent in the area. The use of our offsite manufacturing approach is of significant benefit for residential builds due to the enhanced housing quality standards and energy efficiency ratings achieved.”

The new development will be completed by the end of 2016.
