A young accounts graduate from Greenock has secured part-time employment with River Clyde Homes through a partnership with the Inverclyde Trust.

River Clyde Homes worked with the Trust, which receives funding from Inverclyde Council, to give Jenna McKinnon the opportunity to gain work experience and an understanding of what it’s like to work in a finance environment. The programme is designed for unemployed graduates and offers up to one year work placements.

Jenna said: “I am so pleased to be given this opportunity. It’s unlikely that I’d be considered for an accounts position with my qualifications alone so this scheme is an ideal way for me to gain that all important practical experience that employers desire and kickstart my career in finance.”

Albert Henderson, vice-chair of the personnel committee, said: “This is a great example of partnership working between River Clyde Homes and the Trust. We can give graduates invaluable work experience to help them gain employment in the longer term. I understand that we hope to give other young people in the area a similar start, underlining our commitment to provide employment opportunities in Inverclyde.”

Fiona Macleod, employment opportunities worker for the Trust, added: “The Trust are delighted that Inverclyde Council continues to fund opportunities for local graduates, which has allowed us to place graduates within the public and the private sectors. The graduate programme is a key aspect of creating local opportunities and ensuring that the candidates decide to start their careers and continue to live in the area”
