Nancy Birtwhistle, the winner of the Great British Bake Off 2014, has regaled 50 lucky cake lovers to join her at a fundraising event held by Housing Options Scotland (HOS) at Cromlix Hotel on 29th May 2018.

Moira Bayne, CEO of HOS, was delighted with the success of the sold-out event.

She said: “On behalf of everyone at Housing Options Scotland, I would like to thank Nancy for coming to our afternoon tea today and being our special guest. Thanks to her presence, we have managed to raise £1,000. This significant money will be extremely useful in allowing us to help more people who face housing challenges.”

The charity, which offers free housing advice to the disabled, older people and veterans, helps on average 500 clients a year. Raising money is crucial for the charity, which recently celebrated 20 years of service.

Christine Jackson from Bearsden was one of the lucky people to attend the event. “When I found out about today’s afternoon tea, I really wanted to come along. I am a big fan of Nancy’s recipes. She kindly gave me some of her special baking tips. I can’t wait to try them in my own kitchen! It’s also great to be able to help such an important charity as Housing Options Scotland.”

Christine, a former client of HOS, contacted HOS nine years ago when she was trying to find his own place for her son Graeme who has learning disabilities. “I will eternally be grateful for the amazing support my family and I received from the team at HOS.”

When asking Nancy why she accepted HOS’s invitation, the 2014 Great British Bake Off winner said: “I had a lovely time in beautiful Dunblane and really enjoyed hearing about the work of Housing Options Scotland. Thanks to the Bake Off fans who made me feel so welcome.”
