Des Murray, head of housing property, said: “We want our tenants to live in pleasant well lit accommodation and many people living in our sheltered housing complexes have visual impairments, so we want to try and help them wherever possible.“The lights are designed to benefit residents with features such as enhanced lighting and automatic dimming. The new lighting system will help the council save on energy bills, allowing money to be reinvested in other housing services.”

Kerr Grieve resident Ena Naismith who has lived in the complex for 14 years said: “This is really positive development. The lights make a huge difference and make it much easier for people to see their way about. It makes the whole place look better and more welcoming.”

Plans are already in place to roll-out the new lighting systems in sheltered housing complexes in Airdrie, Kilsyth and Moodiesburn.
