New plan to boost number of affordable rural homes

A housing manufacturer has struck a deal with Scottish Land and Estates to offer Scottish landowners the chance to boost rural incomes, deliver affordable housing, and sustain local communities though its new affordable homes programme.

Clyde Homes Limited delivers factory built affordable homes for residential and leisure use. Working with Scottish Land and Estates members to deliver innovative local housing and revenue generating opportunities in the leisure and tourist sector, the firm’s new programme provides a route for landowners to maximise their income by making use of suitable land for housing and leisure accommodation need.

Designed to increase potential incomes and address the chronic need for affordable rural housing to maintain communities and provide affordable homes for sale rent, or indeed as an alternative income, Clyde Homes is now working to deliver rural housing solutions for both permanent and tourist accommodation.

The growth in tourism and requirement for quality rural accommodation and the development of the Scotland 500 tourist route along with an established Scottish tourist industry and the modern factory built affordable homes designed by Clyde Homes Ltd come together as a route to growth for future landowner’s incomes.

Colin Young, CEO of Clyde Homes, said: “By using none productive or uneconomic land Landowner’s are ideally placed to bolster their incomes by providing both rural affordable housing to meet local need and to secure a slice of the tourist and leisure income by providing high quality accommodation.

“All that needed is a suitable site, and we can deliver and commission their new homes ready to move into within a couple of days.

“With our support we hope to both help landowners at this difficult time and also support Scottish industry as we aim to source our own materials from sustainable Scottish forests and other local businesses.”

He added: “We aim to support local communities and provide affordable homes for all to help protect the rural economy of Scotland, and ensure future generations are able to settle in their local areas rather than being forced to move away due to rising housing costs.

“We provide Scottish Land and Estates members with support and advice to create their local housing solutions and look forward to working to help sustain incomes and provide the quality homes that are so desperately needed.”
