Off-site manufacturing investment pays off as CCG reports record turnover

_DSC5079 - CopyCCG (Scotland) Ltd is preparing for further growth after reporting a strong year with turnover exceeding £134 million – up 18% on 2016’s figures.

Profit before taxation at the Glasgow-based construction and manufacturing group also significantly increased on the previous year to over £4.3m.

Commenting on the group’s performance for the financial year ended March 2017, Alastair Wylie, chairman and chief executive of CCG (Scotland) Ltd, said: “CCG has been in business for more than four decades and we continue to go from strength to strength because we are always innovating and staying ahead of the curve.

“We pride ourselves on being a quality construction business that can operate in all sectors of the construction industry. It has been extremely encouraging that we have again generated more than 25% of our turnover from non-housing projects.

“Housebuilding still remains at the core of our business and our contribution to this sector is a direct result of a £12m investment in our own Off-Site Manufacturing facility (CCG OSM) in 2012. This enables us to produce fully enhanced closed panel timber systems in controlled factory conditions before transporting to site for final installation.”

CCG OSM is the only facility of this scale in Scotland, with a 130,000 square foot production hall, capable of producing 3,000 homes per year.

CCG OSM also reported a significant increase in turnover for the latest financial year – up 15% on 2016 to over £12.7m.

CCG said it attributes its success to its staff, with training and investment in young people at the core of their ethos. In August 2016 the company recruited 16 trade apprentices which raised the number employed to 62 across bricklaying, plumbing and joinery. In addition in March 2017 the group had 19 trainees within the management, professional and administration departments of the group representing over 10% of the group’s 650 strong workforce.

Further recruitment since March 2017 has resulted in the company now employing 71 trade apprentices and 31 trainees within the management, professional and administration departments of the group.

Over the past year, CCG has worked on key projects including the final phase of 206 homes for the award-winning Anderston Regeneration in Glasgow city centre for Sanctuary Housing. The company also went live on a 42 flat development on Ellerslie Road in Yoker, which through the use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), is now the tallest timber structure in Scotland.

Alastair added: “There was a period this year when we were live on over 1,000 homes which is a fantastic achievement for the business. Our teams have been focused on developing new partnerships to support Scotland’s housing ambitions while our R&D division continues to explore new products and processes such as CLT which will enable us to enhance our offering in the delivery of flatted residential developments.

“To support our growth ambitions we also put the necessary divisional structures in place including launching our own building services and M&E division, Arc-Tech.

“2017 has been an incredible year for CCG and we look forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead over the next 12 months and beyond.”

Key Achievements 2016/2017 – Affordable Housing

  • CCG’s continuation of the award-winning Anderston Regeneration project commencing the final stage of the £50m Anderston Regeneration Masterplan on behalf of Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association. The final phase, Phase 4 & 5, comprises 206 flats and is due for completion in 2018.
  • The commencement of construction works at Yoker, a 42-home residential development that is also being delivered on behalf of Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association. Yoker is a leading example of CCG’s approach to research and development having being constructed entirely of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and is Scotland’s tallest timber building.
  • As part of the first phase of the Craigmillar Town Centre Masterplan on behalf of Dunedin Canmore CCG is live on site building 111 new affordable homes. Scheduled for completion in Summer 2018, the current phase of CCG’s development will consist of 53 new homes for social rent and a further 58 for mid-market rent. This builds on other work CCG has delivered in Edinburgh over the past three years, including the regeneration of the former Niddrie Mill Primary School into ‘The Schoolhouse’, the creation of the Thistle Foundation Centre for Health and Wellbeing, the successful completion of 112 PRS flats at Lochrin Basin and 94 new affordable homes at Leith Fort.
  • Since October 2016 CCG has delivered 32 affordable homes for Perth & Kinross Council through the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA) NH1 New Build Homes Framework. All of the properties – situated at Nimmo Avenue, Cairns Crescent and Gleanearn Road in Perth – were created using closed panel timber systems at CCG’s Off-Site Manufacturing centre in Cambuslang, with each of the developments securing a prestigious Silver standard of sustainability.
