Queens Cross Housing Association announces finalists for local heroes award

The awards recognise community champions who have gone above and beyond to improve the community and services

The search to find north west Glasgow’s local heroes has been narrowed as Queens Cross Housing Association revealed the finalists for its Pride of Queens Cross Awards 2018.

Held every two years, the third event of its kind will recognise local residents and staff who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to improve the community and services.

Following a record number of entries, a three-person judging panel made the final decision as to who would be shortlisted in each of the seven categories which make up the awards. Funded by sponsors, the showpiece ceremony takes place at the Hilton Grosvenor hotel on November 9.

Sarah Boyack, head of public affairs at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, was one of those involved in the judging process. She was impressed with the high standard of nominations for this year’s event.

Posting on Twitter, Sarah said: “It was a privilege to help judge nominees for the Pride of Queens Cross Awards.

“It’s a testament to the fantastic work of housing association staff, tenants and volunteers #toughtochoose.”

Categories in the awards include leadership, teamwork and outstanding service to the community.

“With a record number of nominations this year, it highlights just how much good is being done within the community and the association,” Queens Cross chief executive, Shona Stephen, said.

“The finalists all deserve huge credit and it is great to see them being recognised for their achievements.

“And also a big thank you to our main sponsor, OPC, and all the other category sponsors. Without their generous contribution, none of this would have been possible.”
