Regulator ends statutory manager appointment at Muirhouse

Muirhouse Housing AssociationThe Scottish Housing Regulator has decided to end the appointment of the statutory manager at Muirhouse Housing Association.

A revised regulation plan highlights that Muirhouse has made good progress in dealing with the issues that led to the regulator’s statutory intervention in December 2014.

The regulator had appointed a statutory manager as well as three members to Muirhouse’s governing body to address serious weaknesses in its governance and financial management.

Ian Brennan, director of finance and risk at the regulator, said: “Over the last year Muirhouse has taken steps to address the serious and immediate risks to tenants’ interests and has dealt with the issues that led to our statutory intervention. It has made good progress implementing its action plan and has strengthened its committee with new board members, appointed a new chair and appointed an interim chief executive to assist it to implement its planned improvements. So we have ended the appointment of the statutory manager.”

Mags Lightbody, interim chief executive at Muirhouse Housing Association, said: “We are delighted that the regulator has acknowledged the hard work and positive progress that Muirhouse has made to allow them to stand down their statutory manager arrangement. We will continue to work apace to positively transform all that we do at Muirhouse to best serve our tenants now and in the future.”

The regulator has extended the three statutory appointments to the governing body until June 2016, to support Muirhouse while it embeds its programme of improvements. As a result, the regulator will continue to have high engagement with Muirhouse.
