One of Oban’s most familiar buildings is to get a comprehensive facelift thanks to Argyll Community Housing Association.

Works to the tenement at 52 Soroba Road, which provides 6 homes, will include a new roof, re-rendering, wall insulation, external painting and new fascias, soffits, downpipes and guttering.

The 10 week contract coordinated by Argyll Community Housing Association to a value of £133,000 has been awarded to Turner Facilities Management Limited.

Alastair MacGregor, ACHA’s chief executive, said: “I am delighted that with the support of Argyll and Bute Council, property owners and our tenants, we have got on site to save this building to provide homes for the future. I hope it will, on completion, be as successful as the neighbouring tenement restoration across the road which we completed 3 years ago.”

He added: “The restoration of this building will see the completion of improvements to the third and final tenement at the heart of Soroba Road.”

Councillor Roddy McCuish, chair of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles area committee of Argyll and Bute Council, added: “I would like to congratulate ACHA and the Council and of course the tenants of 52 Soroba Road, in working in partnership to restore this building which has been deteriorating for some time. In doing this work, this will ensure the building not only will look good but will also be a benefit to all the residents. This will enhance the whole area and compliment the already good work done on the ACHA properties in Soroba Road.”
