River Clyde Homes has celebrated a landmark 100th let in the newly regenerated area of Broomhill in Greenock.

Aldo Imponenti, who has always lived in the town and was born in Ann Street recently became the 100th customer to sign for a home in the Broomhill area.

Mr Imponenti said: “I love this area. Both my older brother and I were born at home in Ann Street in Broomhill and have seen the area change through the years. It is a wonderful place to live where everyone knows and looks out for each other.”

The Broomhill area is being transformed by a £26 million regeneration programme, one of the biggest in Scotland. Currently over 600 homes are being upgraded to a high standard to be energy efficient by means of new double glazing, insulated render and a low cost bio-mass heating centre designed to keep customers’ fuel bills down. New security features are also being introduced, including a community CCTV system and door entries with video links.

Broomhill Court has recently been designated as retirement housing, to provide an enhanced housing management service to older people who require assistance to live independently. Services on offer at the new look block will include a facilities manager on site to look after the block, increased CCTV, call points on landings and guestroom facilities.

However, Broomhill is about more than just bricks and mortar and Elaine Cannon, service improvement manager (central), said: “Our Community Development Officer for the Broomhill area, Katrine Hoey, has recently been working with the community to harness feedback on the re-naming of Broomhill Court and the potential for communal facilities within this block which may include a pop up library service with computer suite to encourage digital inclusion and training. Since the Broomhill Court Open Day on Scottish Housing Day on 21st September, we have had a great deal of interest and a number of properties have been allocated within the block.”

Sandra McLeod, executive director of customer services, said; The Scottish Housing Day campaign was a resounding success and The Broomhill Open Day was one of the most positive experiences I’ve seen here. The team has now hit a major milestone in letting 100 properties in Broomhill. We have been working with the committed local community and are dedicated to continuing to make a difference to Broomhill and to our customers’ quality of life.”
