River Clyde Homes celebrated Scottish Apprenticeship Week by showcasing the benefits that four apprentices bring to the housing association.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week celebrates the opportunities and benefits that modern apprenticeships bring to businesses, young people, and the economy.

The Inverclyde based housing association currently employs an IT modern apprentice, two joiner apprentices who were recruited via Adopt an Apprentice scheme and a PATH (Scotland) trainee.

Chris McEleny, chairperson of the River Clyde Homes personnel committee, said: “As part of Scottish National Apprenticeship Week it was great to meet and talk first hand to our apprentices to learn more about how they are enjoying the River Clyde Homes experience. Providing quality jobs and opportunities to the people in the community that we serve is very important to River Clyde Homes and as a former apprentice I’m always happy to support our next generation of apprentices.”

Maureen Gimby, head of organisational change at River Clyde Homes, said: “We are happy to have the opportunity to employ apprentices. Each one brings their individual talent and skills with them and they are a great benefit to River Clyde Homes. We work with our partners at Inverclyde Community Development Trust, Construction Industry Training Board and PATH Scotland to recruit our modern apprentices and to ensure that we maximise opportunities in Inverclyde, for example through community benefit clauses in our contracts. Each apprentice has a comprehensive training and development programme to ensure that they get the most from their apprenticeship.”

Kyle Copeland, IT modern apprentice, added: “I’m really enjoying the experience. The team have been great and I’ve learned so much from them. This kind of on the job training is invaluable and will help me to progress my career in IT.”
