Milnbank Housing Association management committee member Nick Halls has been named as the SHARE Committee Learner of the Year for the second occasion.

Nick, who received the trophy from SHARE’s chair Paul McShane at the AGM on June 18, ensured Milnbank get to keep the trophy as this is the third year in succession that it has won the competition.

Judges were impressed by Nick’s Learning Log submission, as well as listing his 37 episodes of learning, for showing the depth and breadth of his learning and the relevance to his role as a committee member, enhancing both his knowledge and skills.

Nick said: “I have never stopped learning from the day I was elected to the management committee of Milbank Housing Association. Every meeting throws up something new. There are many others who deserve to have their knowledge & understanding recognised, other than me. I am only trying to catch up, and it remains a steep learning curve.”

Karen McDonagh of Ardenglen Housing Association received a special mention as a close runner up. Karen had 18 episodes of learning and also showed how the learning she has done enhanced her role as a committee member.

Alan Ferguson SHARE’s director said: “The completion of the Learning Log allows Committee/Board members to reflect on learning they have completed and evaluate how this has impacted on their role as a committee member which ultimately leads to better knowledge sharing and more informed decision-making for the benefit of tenants.”
