Maryhill Housing has been playing its part in an initiative to help young people learn about work.

A trio of young women have spent a month at the Association on a paid internship and were mentored by three members of staff.

The paid internships are considered an invaluable insight into the workplace and, in the case of Maryhill, how rewarding a career in housing can be.

It is all part of the “Career Ready” programme which Maryhill Housing supports and which links employers with schools and colleges.

All from schools in Glasgow, the three young people who took part in the internship were Antonia Connelly-Johnston (­­­Hyndland Secondary), Megan Wilson (John Paul Academy) and Caitlin Adams (­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Cleveden Secondary).

Community regeneration manager, Ruth Adam, who was one of the three staff involved in the mentoring, said: “Our mentees were outstanding and a credit to their respective schools.

“They were hard working, willing to learn and hopefully found their time with us rewarding.

“Their work included helping with many of Maryhill’s 40th Anniversary activities including a family fun day and trip down the Forth and Clyde canal.”

The mentees also got involved in the operational work of the housing association including investment, maintenance and joining the customer contact team.

Before leaving they prepared a presentation in which they highlighted some things they liked - such as different departments within the organisation working closely together.

They were also impressed with the wide-ranging community-focused activities of the Association.
