Two teams within West Dunbartonshire’s Health and Social Care Partnership have been nominated for national awards.

The annual Herald Society Awards, which are now in their seventh year, recognise the best work in the public and voluntary sector.

The West Dunbartonshire Vitality Plus team and colleagues responsible for West Dunbartonshire’s Palliative Care Programme have been named as finalists in two separate categories.

Vitality Plus is nominated for the Legacy 2014 Award, and the Palliative Care Programme is up for the Health and Social Care Integration Award.

The Vitality Plus scheme delivers fun, interactive classes for older people living in residential homes or attending day centres.

The Palliative Care Programme provides an integrated approach to caring for people at the end of their life. The person-centred and compassionate approach ensures that people have the best quality of life that they can, whilst maintaining independence in a homely setting for as long as possible.

The nominated teams are up against competition from across Scotland and will find out if they have been successful at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on November 4.

Councillor Gail Casey, chairperson of West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership Board, said: “It is fantastic to see these two excellent services nominated in these prestigious awards.

“We are committed to protecting vulnerable people within our communities, and both of these programmes make such a difference to people’s lives, often when they are facing the most difficult circumstances. What better way to say thank you to the staff who make this possible than to see them recognised nationally for their work.”
