Wheatley Care staff ensure Burns Night is still celebrated in lockdown

Despite not being able to gather with friends and family for a traditional Burns Supper, the staff at Wheatley Care’s Fullarton Service in Glasgow have been finding new ways to make sure the people they work for were feeling festive this Burns Night.
Residents at the care home for adults have been provided with an activity pack full of games, quizzes and songs about Rabbie Burns. They have also been given a special Burns Night gift with tasty Scots treats including shortbread, Tunnock’s Teacakes and Caramel Wafers.
Pamela McCarthy, Fullarton service manager, said: “On Burns Night before coronavirus, the people we work for would be together enjoying a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties. But, with current restrictions, we won’t be able to do that this year. We wanted to mark the special day and give everyone something to smile about during these challenging times.

“The coronavirus crisis has impacted our normal way of life, and we know how important feeling connected is during lockdown restrictions. We hope the activity pack and gift bring some cheer and help those we work for feel less isolated until we can all be together again.”
Throughout the coronavirus crisis, Wheatley Care staff have provided ‘boredom busting’ activity packs and helped residents keep in touch with friends and family through video calls. Over the festive period, staff distributed over 1300 meals, hampers and Christmas gifts.
