Chairing the Committee/Board of a charity, association or co-operative – ilm Endorsed Programme

What is it and who’s it for?

The Chair’s role is more complex, and you’re having to juggle lots of issues, whilst providing leadership and vision. You’re helping to ensure your organisation performs well and satisfies various regulators. You’re having to ensure sound governance, whilst representing the organisation at meetings or openings; whilst making sure your Committee/Board is happy as well as your Director/Chief Executive. And it can be quite a lonely place, especially when there are problems.

Course content

This programme consists of six evenings sessions, and you would have the opportunity to learn about: your role as a chair, effective leadership of the Committee/ Board, managing meetings and building key relationships.

The accreditation is based around you learning-by-doing and by reflecting on your own experiences as well as the experience of your fellow Chairs.

The programme is endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ilm) and each delegate will be expected to complete some assignments. These help to embed the learning and ensure that you get the most from the experience.
