Developing your supervisory skills
Who’s it for and what’s it all about?
This course is designed for new or aspiring supervisors (or team leaders) to highlight and explore the essential day to day tasks, responsibilities and supervisory skills required to be an effective supervisor / team leader.
Using conversation and practical examples (with not a role play in sight) delegates will discuss what makes for a good and effective team and the essential 5 core areas (POLCA) that are generic to all management roles will be considered and explored.
Course Content
⦁ Attributes of an effective team
⦁ Role of the Supervisor | Team Leader – what are you expected to do and how does this fit with your manager?
⦁ POLCA – an overview of the 5 x core areas that apply to all management roles
⦁ Managing your time and effort to ensure we ‘get everything done’: some hints and tips
⦁ Using SMART objectives to agree and achieve tasks
⦁ Effective and authentic team communications
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
⦁ Identify the purpose and objectives of your role
⦁ Work towards setting appropriate objectives – for yourself and with your team
⦁ Appreciate how best to manage and motivate your team through effective communication
⦁ Feel more confident in resolving everyday problems and challenges on the time and priorities front
