Governance masterclass

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

The Governance Masterclass programme, delivered over four, two-hour evening sessions, will help build your confidence, knowledge and ability to navigate the challenging governance environment you operate in.

Governance in housing associations and co-operatives has transformed over the years and ensuring strong governance is one of the biggest challenges facing the sector just now. As Committee/Board members you have a range of big responsibilities and more is being placed on you, with the latest being the new Regulatory Framework and the requirement to produce an annual Assurance Statement. You need to keep up to date with what’s happening in housing and ensure you have the knowledge and skills to deliver strong, effective governance.

The Governance Masterclass covers the following areas:

The challenging environment of governance
This course is designed to equip all Committee/Board members to work confidently within a challenging and evolving governance setting, and will introduce governance as a concept, what it is, why it is important, and how we have arrived at the current governance landscape.

The information you require: ARC and financial returns
The second course looks at the information that the SHR requires from organisations to ensure they are well governed and meeting regulatory requirements; such as the ARC and financial returns.

The Regulatory Standards
This course focuses on the Regulatory Standards, looking at each of the standards and what organisations need to do to comply with them.

Implementing the Regulatory Framework
The final course in the governance masterclass series will consider all the other aspects of the Regulatory Framework within the requirements for local authorities and RSLs. This session also looks at governance probity and organisational culture.
