Lone working and personal safety - SHARE

Who’s it for and what’s it about?

Housing professionals often find themselves working alone out in the community, and whilst most of the time this poses minimal risks, we must be aware of certain factors that can increase the risks we face.

This session is for any housing professional who works alone with members of the community. It will consider safe lone working practices, issues which pose a heightened risk, making risk assessments, and what to do when you encounter physical encroachments on your personal space or violence.

Course Content

This course will cover:

  • Assessing risk safely
  • Working safely alone – practices and procedures in your organisations
  • Encountering aggression
  • Managing your personal space
  • Exit strategies and breakaway techniques
  • Safe areas and post-event counselling

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, delegates will:

  • Feel more confident in assessing the risk they face when lone working
  • Be equipped with tools and practices to ensure that they can work safely alone
  • Be able to recognise triggers for aggression
  • Be aware of their personal space and how to ensure this is comfortably maintained
  • Be aware of how to safely exit situations where they feel at risk and how to safely escape should they encounter violence
