SHARE Management Development Programme (endorsed by ilm)
Now’s the time to start investing in your career – are you the next leader?
They say it takes 10-thousand hours to master anything we do and being a great leader is no exception. If we think about the leaders, we know and admire and take a close look at their careers we can easily see that 10-thousand hours through dedication to learning their craft and slowly climbing the ranks. Your typical housing manager in Scotland will have started as a housing assistant, sometimes taking sideways moves before moving up the ladder to eventually becoming senior managers or directors without those dedicated years of deliberate practice leading an organisation would be impossible.
To be that great leader requires those first important steps where you will explore leadership styles of those around you before understanding what your own may be as well as how you utilise other styles to fit different ways of working. The lockdowns of 2020 & 2021 stretched the limits leadership where new ways of leading teams were developed on the spot. Just how would you have coped, or would you have done anything different? The benefit of hindsight is a great thing and many of us will be using what we have learned to further develop our ever-evolving leadership styles.
Of course, it can be daunting stepping into the leadership role and for some of us we may let the feeling of ‘imposter syndrome’ stop us from ever achieving our leadership goals. But now really is the time to start investing in your career. Perhaps you already have those 10-thousand hours, and the last step is to develop your leadership skills. SHARE have developed a management programme endorsed by the institute of leadership & management to help you do just that.
