Maryhill Housing Association had an ace up its sleeve with a star sporting guest who turned Maryhill into Murrayhill.

Judy Murray held a special tennis coaching session in the community which drew a large crowd of tennis-mad youngsters.

The much-anticipated session took place as tennis fans descended on Glasgow for Britain’s triumphant Davis Cup weekend with Judy’s two sons Andy and Jamie leading the way.

Judy’s tennis session was designed to improve ball control and was an energetic lesson in basic tennis skills.

The session was brought to Maryhill by Tennis on The Road, a project sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland.

The Maryhill visit was arranged by Maryhill Housing Association’s community regeneration manager Ruth Adam.

Ruth said: “It was great to welcome Judy to Maryhill and to see so many kids enjoying themselves Judy was wonderful with the youngsters – explaining the kind of sporting advice she gave to her own two boys when they were young. Hopefully the Maryhill youngsters had a great afternoon.”

Local Maryhill resident Liz Broadfoot attended the session with her granddaughter Emma Ronald.

Liz said: “We thoroughly enjoyed it. Judy made all the kids feel welcome and brought a lot of fun to the activities. Judy showed us some excellent games for playing with the kids to improve coordination.”
