Run by a group of volunteers, the new social cafe aims to expand the reach of RealLiving to more vulnerable older people affected by isolation, loneliness and illness, helping them to reconnect with their community.

The new cafe will be held every Friday between 10.30am and 12.30pm in Parkgate Community Centre.

RealLiving delivers opportunities for older people to participate in meaningful activities and organised outings at its social cafes, giving them much needed companionship and support. It works with volunteers, offering a range of skills, practical help and friendship which benefits everyone involved whether helping or being helped.

Sarah Smith, director of LinkLiving, said: “We are delighted to have launched a second social cafe in Rosyth. Older people are particularly vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation due to the loss of friends and family, limited income and poor mobility.

“People who are lonely or isolated are more likely to experience poor mental and physical health and we’re therefore pleased that RealLiving can reconnect more people with their community, and in doing so, reducing these risks.”

RealLiving volunteers were recently shortlisted as finalists in the Charity Champion of the Year Category at the 2017 Dunfermline Press Community Champion Awards for all of the work they’d undertaken in the community.
