Melville runners smash fundraising target

Great Scottish RunAn intrepid team of six ‘athletes’ from Melville Housing Association have smashed their charity fundraising target to raise almost £1500 at the Great Scottish Run.

Neil Edgar, Dan Hughes, Caroline Langton, Stacey McNealis, Iain Ross and Martin Sloan dug out their lycra and trainers (some for the first time) to travel through to Glasgow to line up alongside more than 10,000 brave souls on the start line. Remarkably, all six finished!

“I’m not going to pretend it was easy, or much fun,” said Melville’s Neil Edgar. “But we did it and survived and that’s the main thing. Astonishingly no one suffered any serious injury and given our combined age that’s no mean feat. On a more serious note we’re delighted to have raised a decent amount for a very worthwhile charity and on behalf of the team I would like to thank everyone that sponsored us. It’s greatly appreciated and every pound raised really spurred us on.”

The Melville team were raising money for Alzheimer Scotland, Melville’s chosen staff charity for the year. Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland, providing a wide range of specialist services for people with dementia and their carers.
