New homes plan submitted by Ardenglen Housing Association

Ardenglen Castlemilk 2Ardenglen Housing Association has submitted detailed plans to Glasgow City Council for the construction of 22 new homes on the site of the former St Martin’s School at Ardencraig Road in Castlemilk.

Using a long standing design team partnership of ARM Architects, Reid Associates and Scott Bennett Associates, the development makes use of the derelict brownfield site to provide a variety of homes for social rent, including a significant number which will be adapted to meet the needs of existing tenants.

Ardenglen CastlemilkArdenglen’s chief executive, Kenny Stocks, said: “The site has brought a number of challenges and in particular we had to be sure our plans were sympathetic to the local environment, sitting as it does on the boundary of the Cathkin Braes Country Park.

“We are already working with Glasgow City Council and other partners to deliver a leisure hub and activity centre within the B-listed St Martin’s Church which sits next door. This small housing development will compliment these proposals and further raise the profile and the opportunities Cathkin Braes has to offer both Castlemilk and the wider Glasgow community.

“This will be Ardenglen’s seventh phase of new housing at Cathkin Braes and is part of a long term project to regenerate an area which has outstanding natural beauty and is at long last receiving the profile and attention it deserves.”

Pending planning approvals and contractor appointments it is hoped work on the site will begin in November 2017.
