ng homes at heart of Springburn’s Multicultural Music Festival

African Challenge Scotland’s Multicultural Music Festival took place in Glasgow last month, with ng homes once again playing a key role.

The housing association helped facilitate the annual event which was held at the Boathouse in Springburn Park Community Village.

The event is designed to bring together all different members of the community to meet, socialise and be introduced to different cultures. Such events break down social barriers and offer a real chance to promote integration and opportunity for ethnic communities.

African Challenge Scotland (ACS), the group which organised the event, is a partner organisation of ng homes.

John Thorburn, ng homes chair, said: “We are delighted to continue to support African Challenge Scotland and the great work they are doing in the community in supporting integration. This is at the forefront of ng homes’ practice and we were very happy to be involved once again. We are proud of our relationship with the group and the impact it has had already in North Glasgow.”

The Multicultural Music Festival had three main goals: to encourage activism, participation and volunteerism in public spaces to benefit local communities; to raise awareness of placemaking as an approach and catalyst for building sustainable, healthy, inclusive and economically viable communities; and to help communities bring new life to their communities.

The celebration brought together all different kinds of music from across the world. DJ Manu DJ’d at the event and there was a range of information stalls and activities. There was food and drink, a bouncy castle and a traditional African art display amongst many other things in a fun filled afternoon.

Justin Kelass of African Challenge Scotland said: “We are proud to show how ACS is able to serve our community fully and effectively, providing excellence for pupils, families and our wider members of the communities.

“ng homes is at the heart of our community and the excellent support they provide to us is very much appreciated. We are delighted to receive their continued backing and ongoing support from Glasgow City Council which has made it possible to provide this amazing and colourful event for the community.”
