A surprise guest appearance from Aberdeen FC on-loan mascot Angus the Bull ensured great support for a fun-filled charity football match organised by the staff of Osprey Housing Group.

The match was also supported by European Cup Winners Cup medallist and Gothenburg legend Neil Simpson.

Staff, their families, and friends from within the local community and further afield all took part in the action at the Lawsondale Pitches in Westhill, Aberdeenshire last month, raising nearly £600 for the charity, which supports a network of food banks across Scotland including those local to Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and Moray.

Watched by an enthusiastic and noisy group of spectators the two teams put together by the warm-hearted Osprey staff organisers went head to head, The Osprey Flyers won the match and much hilarity erupted when mascot Angus the Bull turned out to be Osprey chief executive Glenn Adcook.

Mr Adcook then went in goal for a highly competitive penalty shoot-out won by the Osprey Majestics and leaving him feeling that his footballing days are well behind him.

With a mix of ages playing and spectating, everyone enjoyed themselves.

Mr Adcook said: “It was fun but with a real social purpose. I am privileged and proud to have such a hardworking and dedicated team who are prepared to commit their own time and effort outside of work to raise funds for such an important cause. Hunger should have no place in modern society, yet we are seeing the reliance on food banks increasing. My sincere thanks to all involved in organising, participating and supporting the event.”

This is one of a series of events taking place throughout 2019/20 in which Osprey Housing Group is celebrating its 20th anniversary by connecting with local communities with the aim of contributing to their sustainability and wellbeing.
