Planning approval granted for second phase of Inverkeithing regeneration
Thirty per cent of the new houses will be designed and built to meet suit the particular needs of tenants who require amenity or wheelchair housing. The date for the start on site is dependent on the rehousing of the tenants who still live in the flats and some will move into the phase 1 homes.
Fife Council is hoping to start the next phase of demolition in January 2019 and the new build should start during the summer 2019, with an estimated completion in December 2020.
The redevelopment masterplan has been developed through consultation with the local community and the tenants in the existing flats, who have fully participated in the design process. A total of 236 Fife Council flats are being demolished to be replaced by 189 new low rise homes, built to high quality standards to meet identified needs.
The first phase is on site and will provide 53 new homes. It will cost £7.9m with around £4.2m in subsidy from the Scottish Government and the first completions are now scheduled from October this year.
Julie Watson, Kingdom’s development manager, said: “Work has been progressing well on the first phase, however the original completion date has slipped slightly, due to delays associated with some infrastructure works and diversions.”
Bill Banks, chief executive with Kingdom, added: “The phase 2 proposals form part of a masterplan which will see the development of the whole of Fraser Avenue. The masterplan proposals were granted Planning Permission in Principle in April 2016. Building on the successes and the design approach of phase 1, this second phase will provide further high quality energy efficient homes along with a large landscaped area, which will be located within the heart of the development. This landscaped area will provide a focal point for the community, play spaces and green amenity space.”
The design team for the project is: 7N Architects, Rankin Fraser Landscape Architects, SBA (Engineers) and Langmuir & Hay. The new homes are being built for Kingdom by Campion Homes.
