£3.2m Fairfield Housing Co-operative development nears completion in Perth

Fairfield Muirton Park-002Much needed affordable homes are nearing completion in the penultimate phase of the Muirton Park regeneration in Perth.

A mix of 25 homes family and cottage types are scheduled to be handed over by Campion Homes to Fairfield Housing Co-operative in May 2016. The ongoing partnership approach has seen the delivery of over 200 high quality homes since the project started in 2004.

Friday saw the site visited by over 40 guests including board members from Fairfield and Caledonia Housing Association, Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) councillors and housing staff as well as consultants to examine the final stages of the project.

The visit was followed by a viewing of the exhibition by Urban Union to highlight the proposals for the final phase of 200 homes, a mix of both affordable homes and housing for sale which will commence construction later on 2016 subject to planning approval. This continues the partnership approach between Fairfield, Caledonia, PKC and adding Urban Union.

Grant Ager, chief executive of Fairfield, said: “We are delighted with the quality and aesthetic of these homes and they add another dynamic to the overall project. Demand continues to outstrip supply and Campion are delivering an excellent product.

“On to the future it is great news that with Scottish Government, Caledonia Housing, PKC and Urban Union, the final elements of the jigsaw in this highly successful project are now in place and have gained momentum to see a firm completion date of 2018.”

Cllr Dave Doogan, the council’s housing and health convener, said: “Today’s visit afforded a very welcome opportunity to see the excellent progress being made on the latest phase of Muirton’s redevelopment.

“There has been a delay to the pace of Muirton’s redevelopment due to the conditions in the wider house building sector but people can see clearly the new houses taking shape.

“Following the completion of this latest phase there will be sustained activity which will see the remaining phases completed over the next few years.”

Andrew Kilpatrick, asset management director at Caledonia Housing Association, added: “Caledonia Housing Association is pleased to have provided these latest houses for Fairfield Housing Co-op in the latest phase of our continued regeneration of Muirton Park.

“We are looking forward to working with them on the final phases which will see over 200 homes starting on site later this year.”

Dougie Herd, construction director at Campion, said: “We are delighted to be the design and build contractor on Phase 5 of Muirton Park for Fairfield Housing Co-Operative.

“The properties are a credit to the association and we wish the future tenants many happy years in their new homes.”
