Abbeyfield begins major refurbishment of Haddington facility

Paterson Court

Abbeyfield Scotland’s house, Paterson Court in Haddington, has begun a significant refurbishment programme this week.

The supported accommodation complex will see ten units refurbished with new en-suite bathrooms, an enhanced decking area in the communal gardens, a new laundry facility, and the living and dining room areas upgraded.

Expected to be completed this winter, the refurbishment will offer residents bright and modern facilities designed to enhance their home surroundings and has been developed with the resident’s views and preferences in mind. Where possible, dementia-friendly design elements have been incorporated to ensure the safety and comfort of all living there.

Haddington is a very popular development sought after by members of the local community and offers companionship, home-cooked meals, social activities, and beautiful mature gardens to enjoy.

Karen Barr, CEO at Abbeyfield Scotland, said: “We are very excited to see Paterson Court’s refurbishment programme start. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we could not start work when planned and have not been allocating accommodation to new applicants.

“We are therefore very much looking forward to welcoming new residents into our revamped facilities toward the end of the year. By improving the quality of social housing for older and vulnerable adults, we aim to improve the home environment and reduce demand on the care system.”

Consultants on the project included contractor Ashwood Scotland Ltd, architect INCH Architecture, engineer Design Engineering Workshop, services engineer Taylor Associates (M&E) Ltd and quantity surveyor Armour Construction Consultants.
