Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has extended leases for five years to two community organisations in the Soroba housing estate in Oban.

Soroba Young Families Group provides nursery facilities for pre-school children in the Soroba area. The Soroba Enterprise Board supports community initiatives in the area and is actively pursuing the development of a community centre for Soroba.

Councillor Roddy McCuish, ACHA’s secretary, said: “We are pleased to be able to continue to offer ACHA premises to both Community Organisations. Housing is about more than bricks and mortar, it is also about providing the infrastructure to support valuable community resources.”

He added: “Both the Young Families Group and the Enterprise Board do valuable work in Oban’s largest housing estate, through a group of committed volunteers and staff. They are our partners in the ongoing future of Soroba and I am delighted to be able to continue to offer premises owned by ACHA to meet their needs.”

Rachael Turnbull from the Soroba Young Families Group said: “We look forward to being able to continue our nursery service for young people in Soroba and continuing to work with ACHA in the future.”
