Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has confirmed it will be going on site next month to build eight new family homes in Glenshellach.

The contract worth £1,092,400 has been awarded to MacLeod Construction Ltd of Lochgilphead which is currently working for the Association on new build developments in the Oban and Lorn area.

There is currently a waiting list of 740 applicants for housing in Oban, with 590 of these applicants wishing to be considered for Glenshellach, and this development is part of the Association’s strategy to provide desperately needed affordable housing for rent in the town.

Alastair MacGregor, ACHA’s chief executive, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to take this forward. We need to provide housing for families in Oban and this latest phase will make a contribution towards that. I would like to thank the Scottish Government and Argyll and Bute Council for their support with this development.”

The eight units comprise four 2 bedroom and four 3 bedroom houses.

Kenny MacLeod, managing director of MacLeod Construction Ltd, added: “MacLeod Construction Ltd are delighted to be have been awarded the contract by ACHA to build 8 new family houses at Glenshellach in Oban. Not only will this provide much needed housing for the local community, it will also provide continued employment for our workforce and allow us to provide much needed apprenticeships in the local area.”
