Acting on behalf of George Martin Builders, the practice has lodged proposals to restore the B-listed former St Luke’s Church on Bright Street, Lochee. The building has stood in a state of disrepair since a devastating blaze destroyed it in 2017.

The project would see the church’s shell repurposed as the centrepiece of the development, with its original floor levels reinstated and a new second storey created within the roof space, lit by dormer windows. This would provide 15 flats, while the adjoining former church hall would be converted into two houses. A rear extension is also planned, adding a further entrance and extra living space.

Four additional new-build homes would be constructed within the church grounds, rounding out the 21-home total.

The development is designed as a fully affordable housing scheme, offering a mix of two- and three-bedroom properties, including wheelchair-accessible, ground-floor flats, aimed at young professionals, families and older residents alike.

Earlier residential proposals were approved in 2008 and 2015, though neither came to fruition before the fire altered the building’s fate.
