With the theme for this year’s housing day being ‘Healthy Homes, Healthy Futures,’ the housing association is creating a space where tenants can access advice on creating a healthy home and engage in conversations with neighbours to promote a sense of community. 

Staff will be available to talk about energy advice and guidance, such as information about fuel vouchers, and keeping homes warm and comfortable for the colder months ahead. 

A cooking session will also take place, with participants receiving a free take and make pack to make their own meal in their homes. 

AHA maintains efforts to make sure tenants can create healthy habits in their home. 

This has been demonstrated through the Tenancy Sustainment Service, which supported roughly 70 individuals and families throughout the last financial year.

Its delivery has included signposting to relevant services, enabling the cleaning and clearing of hoarded homes, carrying out joint visits with external agencies and general support for tenants to sustain their tenancy -  a service available to all of AHA’s tenants.

In the last financial year, AHA delivered a total of 95 adaptations. These adaptations help to satisfy tenants needs and create safe and accessible homes. Adaptations include installing grab rails, stairlifts or banisters.

The housing association also does winter checks every year. Tenants that are eligible for these checks are visited by a member of the team from Almond Enterprises Ltd (AEL).

Home checks are organised with the tenant, and an AEL operative is present at the visit to identify the water supply stop valve, ensure the property is secure, report any unresolved repairs and look for any trip risks on access paths. 

During these visits, a winter pack is also delivered, such as some vital items for the colder months. Tenants have given feedback that they appreciated the visit with one tenant noting the genuine interest expressed in their care and wellbeing.

AHA tenants also have access to energy advice from Changeworks, alongside benefits and income maximisation advice delivered by The Action Group.
