Build to Rent developer and operator Dandara Living has been granted planning permission by Glasgow City Council to deliver a development of apartments and residential amenity, student accommodation and commercial units, located in Anderston Quay.

Situated on a derelict site overlooking the Kingston Bridge, City Wharf will feature nearly 500 one, two and three-bedroom energy-efficient homes for rent and 490 student bedspaces alongside units for commercial use.

Glasgow’s planning applications committee approved the proposal yesterday after officials had recommended approval.

Their report stated: “The applicant’s design aim has been to create a thriving, mixed-use development on a site which is currently brownfield, derelict land.

“Located on a very prominent site, to the west of the Kingston Bridge, three new buildings are proposed which step up in height towards the river. Prominent on the River Clyde, a tower has been designed as a strong and expressive landmark for the city.

“The design aspirations for the tower are to appear as a strong beacon, which incorporates a quadruple height internal space acting as a viewing lounge. There is also an external roof terrace space proposed which will activate and enhance the skyline.”

Designed by architects, Manson, the ground and first floors will include associated high quality amenities such as a cycle hub, large open plan gym, residents lounge, and co-working spaces with views onto the River Clyde.

The development will also feature a new urban park for use by residents and the wider local community. New private courtyard spaces and recreational areas will also be available to residents with extensive planting and landscaping throughout.

Rachel Allwood, planning director of Dandara Living, said: “We’re delighted City Wharf has been given the green light. It will play a key role in the significant transformation this part of the city is undergoing and help to bring more people into the area extending the vibrancy of the Clyde waterfront.”

A division of the Dandara Group, Dandara Living has an existing development called Granary Quay at Glasgow Harbour which features 342 apartments and a range of resident amenities.
