Angus Council opens housing allocation policy consultation

Angus Council logoAngus Council has started a five-week consultation about changes it is proposing for its Common Housing Allocation Policy.

The consultation is being carried out between now and January 11 along with housing partners Hillcrest Housing Association, Caledonia Housing Association and Blackwood Homes.

The Common Housing Allocation Policy sets out how to register for housing and how the council will assess and prioritise bids for housing based on housing needs. It also states how available homes will be advertised to meet the needs of housing applicants on the Common Housing Register.

The key changes that are being proposed are:

  • introducing a choice-based lettings approach, advertising available properties instead of matching offers to applicants on the waiting list
  • changing how applications will be prioritised in line with changes in legislation
  • changing when applications will be suspended from being able to bid on or receive offers of housing
  • changing the circumstances when an offer of a short Scottish secure tenancy will be made.
  • To find out more about the background to the proposed changes, visit the summary document and full proposed policy on a dedicated page of the council’s website.
