Borders social enterprises invited to unlock funding and support

Charities and social enterprises in the Scottish Borders will have the opportunity to connect with fund managers and experts within Scotland’s third sector, helping them secure the resources they need to increase their social and economic impact and improve the lives of those individuals and communities they support.
On Thursday, 21st August, at an event led by Social Investment Scotland (SIS), charity and social enterprise leaders are invited to come along for discussions and networking at Burnfoot Community Hub in Hawick. This event is part of SIS’s Funding Socials series, which aims to inspire social entrepreneurs with new ideas and valuable connections to build support networks and enhance income generation efforts.
The event will be led by SIS associate Jane Bruce, who will guide an informal, welcoming session designed to encourage open discussion and learning. She will be joined by representatives from South of Scotland Enterprise, Borders Community Action, Firstport, The National Lottery Community Fund, Corra Foundation, and The Architectural Heritage Fund, each bringing valuable insights on funding opportunities and community development.
Aneela McKenna of Mòr Diversity will also speak about her first‑hand experience of championing diversity, inclusion and equality in the outdoors. As a keen mountain biker and founder of Mòr Diversity, she consults with trail, cycling and sports organisations across Scotland and internationally, to empower the next generation of leaders and foster a more inclusive culture in cycling.
Kieran Daly, head of market building at SIS, will be on hand throughout to answer any questions and explain the support avenues available to charities and social enterprises. Kieran said: “With the second half of the year well underway, it’s a good time for social enterprises and charities to reflect, refocus and explore new ways to grow their impact. This event offers a great opportunity to connect with others, share ideas and consider fresh approaches to funding and development.
“We know funding can be complex, which is why we’re bringing together the right people and resources to offer clear, practical support. The Scottish Borders is full of unique, community-led organisations, and we want to help them access the tools, connections and funding they need to thrive.”
Kate Musgrave, head of enterprising communities at South of Scotland Enterprise, said: “The Funding Socials event in Hawick will bring together a wide range of support for community organisations and social enterprises, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it. At SOSE, we’re passionate about helping enterprising communities thrive, and we’re looking forward to connecting with local groups to share how we can support their ambitions and long-term impact across the South of Scotland.”
