Broomhill regeneration continues with launch of new River Clyde Homes flats

River Clyde Homes has launched newly modernised, super energy-efficient flats in the transformed Broomhill area of Greenock.

The regeneration of Broomhill by River Clyde Homes is one of the biggest projects of its kind ever to take place in Scotland, with £26 million invested in the area.

The community is undergoing a major makeover with the transformation of 666 low-rise and multi-storey flats, with brand new kitchens and bathrooms, eco-friendly heating systems, double glazed windows and hi-tech security features.

Each of the homes also has high tech sensors installed which will make them safer, improve energy efficiency and predict any maintenance issues before they happen. The sensors will allow River Clyde Homes to react more quickly to any potential issues, which will improve their service to residents while also saving money.

One resident who has already moved into her new home is Mrs Janette Harper, who was born in the Broomhill area, but moved to the USA. Since returning to Greenock eight years ago, Mrs Harper had lived in the Drumfrochar Road flats which are due to be demolished. She has now moved to a newly refurbished home just across the street and is delighted with her new flat.

Mrs Harper said: “I am so pleased to be staying in the Broomhill area, with my friends and neighbours. Already I’m very settled in my new house, it is so warm and comfortable due to the newly installed gas central heating. My new kitchen and bathroom are just great, very modern. It is much better than I had before.”

Mrs Harper’s entire block has been refurbished as part of the ongoing regeneration. New secure door entry systems have been installed, external wall insulation has been fitted to increase energy efficiency and help reduce fuel bills and the building has been repainted.

Work will begin later this year to refurbish the close and common areas.

Kirsteen McGinn, senior project manager at River Clyde Homes, said: “The transformation of Broomhill is a major three-year plan, one of the largest regeneration projects in Scotland. It’s great to hear that customers like Mrs Harper are happy with the progress we are making and are choosing to stay here. We are very much looking forward to welcoming a lot of new residents to the community when a number of the refurbished properties become available to rent soon.”

The flats will be ready to occupy by late 2016 and those registering early get the benefit of choosing their kitchen from a range of six options.
