Cairn begins first new build development in Irvine

Cairn Housing Association has started work on its first new build housing development in Irvine, delivering nine new energy-efficient homes for social rent.

The development is being built on the former site of cottage flats, which were demolished following a fire in the 2010s. Once complete in summer 2027, the new homes will provide affordable housing for local people.

The development will consist of three terraced blocks containing one-bedroom bungalows, and two- and three-bedroom houses. All homes will be available for social rent.

The new homes are being delivered in partnership with local contractor Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, marking the first time Cairn has worked with the company on a development project.

The wider project team includes quantity surveyor Brownriggs, architect Hypostyle and G3 Consulting Engineers.

The development is being funded through a combination of support from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme and private finance from Cairn.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the homes will include air source heat pumps and other energy efficiency measures to help reduce carbon emissions and support lower energy costs for tenants.

Audrey Simpson, chief executive at Cairn Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to see work begin on Cairn’s first new build development in Irvine and to be delivering nine much-needed affordable homes for the local community.

“The development reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in high-quality, energy efficient homes across Scotland, and we look forward to welcoming tenants to their new homes in 2027.”
