Caledonia launches Big Energy Saving Week for tenants

Caledonia Housing Association (CHA) has unveiled its plans for a week-long, energy-saving advice programme for tenants.

The Big Energy Saving Week, in partnership with Scarf, the energy efficiency advice service, will launch with a webinar on the evening of the 23rd of January to be opened by CHA’s chief executive, Julie Cosgrove, to provide tenants with advice on how to save money, manage energy bills and access financial support as well as tips on keeping homes warm.

In addition to the webinar, CHA has organised all-day drop-in sessions in Dundee, Perth, and Cordale Housing Association’s office in Renton where energy advisors will be on hand to talk to tenants one-on-one. There will be further support and information provided on the CHA website and social media channels.

CHA’s Big Energy Saving Week (23rd – 30th) follows on from its newly formed partnership with Scarf, launched in November 2022 to ensure all tenants have access to support from energy experts in the face of rising energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis.

Julie Cosgrove, chief executive at Caledonia Housing Association, said: “2022 was an incredibly difficult year for many of our tenants and we recognised the benefit of establishing a partnership with Scarf to provide additional support and financial expertise which could help people. Since our partnership launched in late 2022, we’ve had over 50 tenants take up the opportunity and provided various solutions ranging from swapping old style pre-payment meters for Smart meters, issuing heating vouchers to homes, assisting tenants with resolving bills from various providers and writing off over £5,000 of energy debt.”

David Mackay, co-CEO at Scarf, said: “Everyone is facing a cost-of-living crisis and we are pleased to be in partnership with Caledonia to be able to support their tenants at this challenging time. Scarf will be able to provide dedicated and personal advice to tenants over the phone, support with energy supplier queries and where suitable provide small measures to save energy in their own home. Since the partnership started, we have supported tenants in a range of ways and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.”

Julie Cosgrove added: “Our Big Energy Saving Week has been designed to ensure that our tenants are aware of the support which Scarf can provide and that they have the opportunity to speak with the experts to access advice and support to help address issues around energy costs. This is a long-term commitment by Caledonia Housing Association and our team will be devising plans to expand the in-person sessions to more areas where we have homes.”
