Organised by Netherholm Area Association and Thenue Communities, the gala day was funded by the “Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund” - a grant programme supporting community-led cultural, sporting, and arts projects across Glasgow for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

This programme brought into focus sport, culture and community togetherness across Glasgow and Netherholm Area Association received some of the funding to run its own gala day.

Netherholm Hall – which was created in 2018 following a mammoth community effort to bring a neighbourhod hub to this part of Castlmillk - has been a hive of activity over the summer months with free lunches and activities for kids.

Much of the work has been undertaken by volunteers associated with the hall - without whom it could not function throughout the year.

Ruth Adam, community regeneration manager at Thenue Housing, said: “The gala day was a fitting conclusion to an exciting summer of family-friendly activities as part of the Commonwealth Festival designed to involved communities everywhere.

“We are delighted to have been part of this celebration and the community wellbeing it has created. We also want to record our appreciation of Glasgow Life which created the Festival as a way of celebrating the Commonwealth Games.

“At the heart of the day’s success were the dedicated volunteers who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to support planning, organisation and delivery of the event.”

Donna Henderson, Thenue’s chief executive who also attended the gala day, added: “It was great to see so many families enjoying the event. The Netherholm Hall has been a stunning success over the last eight years and was a remarkable community achievement. It remains an essential community hub which is a focus for a host of activities throughout the year and is much valued by the many residents who use it.”
