Celebrating the unsung heroes of Partick

pha-awardsAs part of its 40th Anniversary celebrations, Partick Housing Association (PHA) hosted the People of Partick Awards Dinner in the wonderful setting of Oran Mor in the west end of Glasgow.

Local people were asked to nominate individuals or groups who make a real difference to the area. Often behind the scenes, the nominees work to support, strengthen and develop the local community.

The categories were:

Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award, for someone who’s contribution is distinguishable from the norm, with actions demonstrating an enthusiasm for the Partick area and its people. Winner: Margaret Halliday.

Environmental Focus Award, recognising environmental contributions and improvements made by individuals or groups. Winner: Partick Community Growing Project.

Working Together Award, recognising groups of people who have worked or are working together to achieve something positive for the Partick community. Winner: Partick South Church Tearoom.

Customer Service Award for a member of PHA staff who has delivered excellent service and gone over and above the call of duty. Winner: Gerry Lafferty.

An additional surprise award was made to Margaret Burke for her length of service on the PHA Board, volunteering work and commitment to the community.

The event organiser, Viki McCormick, PHA’s community development officer, said: “The venue provided a spectacular backdrop to a very special evening, enjoyed by all who attended. We’d like to thank our award sponsors, Carillion, Creative Architecture and Grahams for their support. The event was an opportunity to show our appreciation to those who are active in the local community - the people who help make Partick a great place to stay and work.”
