Clydesdale Housing Association (CHA) has worked alongside Lanarkshire Association for Mental Health (LAMH) to provide training to staff to help tenants who are living with a mental health condition.

Housing and mental health are often linked, and poor mental health can make it harder to cope with housing problems.

Lanarkshire Association for Mental Health is a Lanarkshire-based mental health charity and brought its experience of supporting people with mental ill health to the training.

CHA staff learned the basic first aid skills needed to help a person who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. They heard about common mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. Understanding and recognising the signs that someone needs help, is the first step in getting that person appropriate care and treatment.

LAMH has experienced Scottish Mental Health First Aid trainers and can be contacted by telephoning Lesley Reid on 01698 201020 or emailing lesleyreid@lamh.org.uk.
