Renfrewshire Council is to host a consultation on plans to build 150 new homes in Paisley’s West End.

Residents are being invited to view proposals on the draft ‘masterplan’ for the area which includes Well Street, Underwood Lane, Clavering Street East, Sutherland Street, Oakshaw Brae and West Brae.

Council staff will attend to talk through the proposals to redevelop existing land and provide a mix of private and social housing. The plans may also include some new commercial units, subject to demand.

Draft proposals include demolition of existing tenement flats on the east side of Well Street and commercial ground floor properties in the tenement blocks and demolition of vacant residential blocks on Clavering Street East to make way for the new housing. Other features include clearance of the vacant former University of the West of Scotland Halls of Residence to redevelop the area for housing along with land behind Well Street and Sutherland Street, relocating the temporary growing grounds on Sutherland Street.

Feedback from the consultation will be considered and presented to the council’s communities, housing and planning policy board in autumn.

The drop-in sessions will take place at the Reaching Older Adults in Renfrewshire (ROAR) West End Community Centre on 5A Underwood Lane on the following dates:

  • 2pm – 4.30pm on Monday, 12 June.
  • 4pm – 7pm on Wednesday, 14 June.
