Development Officer Support Scheme open to organisations within Sutherland

Development Officer Support Scheme open to organisations within Sutherland

Members of Highland Council’s Sutherland County Committee have agreed to commit £250,000 of Community Regeneration Funding to launch a new Development Officer Support Scheme, designed to strengthen community-led regeneration across the region and deliver on the Sutherland Area Place Plan.

Administered by the Community Regeneration Fund (CRF) team on behalf of Sutherland members, the scheme supports the delivery of the Sutherland Area Place Plan under its key themes: People, Place, and Prosperity.

Funding will be targeted at Development Officer roles within eligible community organisations, such as Development Trusts and Community Development Companies.

Chair of the Sutherland County committee, Councillor Richard Gale, said: “Whilst strengths such as strong community engagement and a vibrant third sector were recognised in the Sutherland Place Plan, a number of key challenges were also identified including depopulation, limited access to services, and housing shortages. Development Trusts, Community Companies, and voluntary groups play a central role in addressing these issues and I’m delighted that we have approved funding for the Development Officer roles which will support their essential work to drive local change by leading projects, engaging stakeholders and building capacity in local communities.”

Community Regeneration Funding (CRF) is an umbrella term used to cover multiple community-led external funding programmes, administered by the Highland Council.  This includes the Highland Coastal Communities Fund, Place-Based Investment Programme and the Community Led Local Development Fund.

Organisations are invited to apply for funding to support initiatives that respond to local needs and deliver on the Area Place Plan priorities. This is a rolling scheme therefore there will be no set times or dates that applicants must apply by.  The scheme will close once funding has been fully allocated with the intention that this will not run beyond March 2026.  High demand is anticipated and interested applicants are strongly encouraged to get in touch as early as possible.

Applicants can apply for up to 100% of project costs, however they must demonstrate that there is a need for this level of intervention, and that match funding options have been explored.

Funding requests should be a minimum of £5,000 and a maximum of £25,000. Applicants should only apply for the amount that is required for their project to be delivered.
