Dundee announces plans for affordable housing delivery
Dundee has set out its plans for new-build affordable housing through its Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) 2027-2032, which discusses the priorities of the council and its partners for spending the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme funding.
The plan highlights that in the year ending 2026, over 220 affordable homes were built.
As of September this year, work is underway on 435 new-build affordable rented homes through the SHIP programme.
This includes 49 homes on Gellatly Street, 54 at Burnside Mill and 24 on Blackness Road.
The plan also discusses how Dundee City Council intends to boost the supply of social rented housing by buying suitable properties on the open market.
Councillor Kevin Cordell, neighbourhood, housing and communities convener, said: “The investment in social housing outlined in this plan will benefit communities across the city, supporting the delivery of more affordable homes through partnerships with housing associations and developers.
“The council works closely with its partners to ensure that all new-build properties delivered as part of the SHIP meet or exceed current energy efficiency standards for social housing.”
Cordell added: “Where appropriate, this includes measures such as solar energy to help reduce fuel poverty, cut carbon emissions and create warm, energy-efficient homes for people who need them.”
