East Lothian community groups encouraged to apply for grant funding

Community groups across East Lothian can apply for grant funding to tackle inequalities from next week.

East Lothian Council’s One Council Partnership Fund is an annual revenue grant which can help cover the running costs and volunteer expenses for community projects, charities and third sector organisations.

Examples of some of the projects which have received One Council Partnership Funding include Heavy Sound, People Know How, The Ridge in Dunbar, Recharge in Tranent and the North Berwick Youth Project.

The overarching aim of this funding is to reduce inequalities; due to the continued impact of COVID-19 and the climate emergency, applications are particularly welcomed which focus on at least one of the following themes:

  • Young people/youth work
  • Social isolation/befriending
  • Supporting volunteering
  • Tackling climate change

Councillor Jim Goodfellow, cabinet spokesperson for community wellbeing, said: “I’m pleased to announce the launch of this next round of council grant funding to help community groups tackle poverty and reduce inequalities in East Lothian. As we have seen this year more than ever, volunteers and community groups make a real difference and can help people feel part of their local community.

“We know that young people have been particularly affected by the recent COVID-19 restrictions and so I would encourage applications from organisations which can help young people to feel valued as citizens, to help shape their communities for the future.”

The closing date for submitting applications is November 30.
