East Renfrewshire sheltered housing service achieves first class report

East_Renfrewshire_CouncilThe sheltered housing warden service provided by East Renfrewshire Council has been given a top-class report from inspectors.

The service won praise and a rating of ‘very good’ in all categories assessed.

Inspectors looked at the quality of care and support, staffing and management and leadership on their visits.

Among the highlights in their report were:

  • The service is very good overall at involving tenants in assessing and improving the service.
  • The effectiveness of the service in enabling tenants to make individual choices and ensure they are supported to achieve their potential.
  • During the inspection tenants comments included: “The care I get is good and I just could not ask for better.”

    “Excellent care and compassion without being intrusive. I feel very safe here.”

    “I am very happy in this sheltered housing accommodation and know that it’s the best position to be in.”

    The service was also given an excellent rating in relation to providing support and training opportunities for staff and also for promoting leadership within staff.

    The sheltered housing warden service provides support to older people who live in sheltered housing provided by East Renfrewshire Council. The service provides support to up to 250 people within eight complexes. It works to improve the quality of life for all residents regardless of their need and enable other people to live independently and be actively engaged in the wider community.

    The Care Inspectorate regulates care services in Scotland.

    Councillor Danny Devlin, convener for housing and maintenance services, said: “Very many congratulations to all the staff on an outstanding report.”
